NFT Question llllllllllllllllll

So I’m just getting my head around NFTs.
Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.
Say I make an image of a flower, as a JPEG. I create 2 of these. I then want to make this an NFT. How can the NFT system distinguish between which is the original, and which is the second file copied?
Or is it the fact, you are making a Blockchain and associating a file with that blockchain, which you are then saying is the “original”? Even though it may not be the actual original file created?
I hope this makes sense what I’m asking, thank you.

  1. Also, say someone has an NFT that is the ” original file”, how do you know that there hasn’t been an earlier file in creation. And what if there is an earlier file, that you then make into an NFT?
So the image really holds no value, and it’s more about the blockchain you own that we then name and associate a chosen file with?
