Minting my first NFT for a school project

I am interested in minting an nft collection of my classmates art at school. I was wondering where the best place to start is gathering information? I have a few initial questions.

1: which blockchain is best to mint on, my initial searches have led me toward solana or polygon, but I would love to hear the pros and cons of different options.

2: Is open sea the best nft marketplace? I am a CS major, is it a viable project (<100 hours) to make my own nft marketplace? I would love the experience of doing so.

3: Royalties, I would love to set up a royalty system to to pay the artist on future sales (assuming they even get sold in the first place, I know this is a long shot, I am more here for the experience). Is there a way to split up initial sale to cover my gas and minting fees, pay the artist, and make set up a third wallet to pay for other student’s minting fees? This probably ties into the first two questions in the way it is minted and the marketplace it is listed on. I am open to any more ideas on this topic, I am sure there is a ton I don’t know yet.

I really appreciate any help, feedback, and resources. Thank you in advance!

  1. I would do it on OpenSea or manifold. The OpenSea Eth mint is as easy as it gets if you just want to do a test.

Good luck and feel free to reach out to me directly with questions.
