Someone reached out to me on Instagram (where I am verified and have a pretty good following) asking if I would sell NFTs of some of my artworks, because they are a collector. Of course I’ve heard about NFTs A LOT, but the press around environmental factors concerned me because my followers know I’m a conservationist and have done a lot of art for environmental causes and I didn’t want to get into something that would be perceived as contrary to my message.
Anyhow, this person wants to choose about 6 of my artworks and pay me between $1,500 to $2,000 for each one.
He said I just have to setup on an NFT marketplace and that it’s super easy.
Here are my questions:
1. Is this a common type of scam? I swear I deal with scam attempts everyday and most of them are things that seem “to good to be true”
Honestly with so much good art out there I’m like confused what makes mine so special…
2. Is there an NFT marketplace or something that’s more “environmentally friendly”? Is that even a thing, is it all a myth anyhow?
3. Where can I read to understand about the crypto aspect? Do I get pain now in actual funds? Or do I get cryptocurrency that will just sit there and grow and need to “mine” it if I want actual cash funds? I’m totally lost on that aspect.
Thanks in advance!
UPDATE:
He directed me to apexmints-nft.live to upload my works
First of all, 99.9% it’s a scam.
1. Yes, I’ve had several people reach out to me. The last one offered $4000 per NFT that is already on the market for $75.
2. Nothing is “environmentaly friendly”. Even food we eat is not “environmentaly friendly”. The whole crypto world uses less electricity than regular vanking world.
Eth used to need a lot of electricity (most NFTs are on eth), but since they turned to POS, it has fallen off drastically. There are other crypto coins that use even less.
3. You get paid in crypto which you can exchange to fiat (you don’t mine anything).
If you have any further questions, feel free to DM me.
Thank you so much for posting this! I’m not really in the crypto/NFT space either. I had someone do the same for me as well, and it just seemed so shady!

The pitch: I was offered $9,000 each for two of my artworks and directed to primenftart.com after I told him I had them on opensea.
It’s not the marketplace but rather which blockchain is environmentally friendly. For example, Etherium has become much much more environmental friendly since the merge/swap to proof of stake (let’s say it’s more efficient). Tezos like someone above mentioned, is art friendly and been gathering a strong art community there
Where to get crypto. Depending on where you live. Binance is my go to. Coinbase is another when you are in the Us
It’s a scam bud, there are other posts like this, if you’re already minting/making your own nft’s make them buy them from you directly. Don’t open up a new account.
Wouldn’t be legit.
Any NFTs on the ethereum blockchain are environmentally friendly.
“When translated to single Ethereum transactions, the electrical consumption is as low as 0.03-kilowatt hour and the carbon footprint stands at 0.01 kgCO2, which, according to digiconomist, is equivalent to the energy used when watching two hours of YouTube.”

The person who contacted you is definitely a scammer, but if you’re an established artist with a following, why not sell NFTs of your work yourself? It’ll give you a chance to learn about a new technology and engage with a new artist community.
Can You show us some of your work?
See what you can get up front and don’t bother making the art. That’s really the only way you’ll come out on top.
Don’t mint on that website, could be an attempt to take all your funds. Research and pick a marketplace that you feel best using, one with good reputation. (I use [GM](https://ghostmarket.io) because the ease and multi chain)
Definitely a scam. It’s always the same pattern,
first they admire your art, then they offer you many thousands of dollars in ethereum if you register on their obscure fake NFT marketplace. Then you have to pay for ‘gas fees’ for turning your art into NFTs. And that’s where they get your money. Just look up their whois, mostly brand new fake sites.
I already had: launchmynft, cosmicpace, seaartworkgallery (my favorite), nftmineecorps and many more.
Don’t upload to random websites. Don’t connect your crypto wallets to random websites. Don’t trust the internet.
With that said, NFTs are legit and plenty of tranditional artists have moved into this era of technology. If you want simple interface and manage everything your own, OpenSea is going to be your best bet – then you set the price and royalties and control it yourself. If they want your art they can buy it on OpenSea.
You will get paid in Crypto, but you can transition it into a fiat relatively easily. The biggest PITA has to do with taxes.
I am CTO of a large NFT project and creating NFTUtils.io for folks to create, manage and deploy larger projects. But for simple things, use a large secondary marketplace like OpenSea, LooksRare, etc.
don’t weary bro we are here [with you!!!](https://www.eon8.com/nft-marketing-services/?utm_source=monish&utm_medium=monish&utm_campaign=monish)
There is no point to do a marketplace to list your artworks, only accound on, for example, OpenSea, if you are interested for AR app for your art I will be happy to help, tread and sample here: https://www.reddit.com/r/NFT/comments/ztb8rp/i_combine_nft_with_ar_posted_on_instagram_some/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Tezos is environmentally friendly and many great artists use that blockchain for NFTs. A collector might be looking to flip your NFTs to make a profit. On some marketplaces you will be paid a royalty for each subsequent sale. I examined this process last night. I bought a NFT on the secondary market and then examined the transaction. The artist got a 10% royalty which only amounted to one cent since I bought the cheapest NFT I could find. The royalty was paid by the collector who was selling the piece, and not by me, the buyer. Now if I sell this NFT, I in turn will only receive 90% of the sell price. This is a great form of passive income for an artist although it might not amount to much until a NFT’s price goes up.
I recommend that you play around with this technology before investing a lot of time or money into it.
