Seeking Guidance: Best Path to Mastering Blockchain and Affordable Master Programs

Hey everyone!

I’m a 23-year-old computer science undergraduate student from Europe, about to complete my bachelor’s degree. I’m really passionate about web3 and blockchain technologies, and I believe they hold immense potential for the future. I’m now at a point where I want to specialize further and pursue a master’s degree in this field.

However, I’ve been struggling to find good and affordable options for blockchain-focused master programs. Ideally, I’m looking for programs that cost no more than $6,000. I’m aware that the blockchain field is relatively new and rapidly evolving, making it challenging to find well-established and reasonably priced programs.

Considering my background and interests, I would greatly appreciate any advice and guidance on the best path to mastering blockchain. Are there any reputable universities or programs that you could recommend which align with my budget? Additionally, I would love to hear about alternative approaches or resources that might help me achieve my goal.

Thank you so much in advance for your help! Your insights and suggestions would be invaluable to me as I plan my future in the blockchain industry.

  1. I can’t recommend specific masters programs but I’d like to say a few words about blockchain development before you embark on this 2 year path.

99.999% of blockchain developers did not get any formal blockchain education. Blockchain-specific formal education is not an expectation at all when hiring crypto developers.

The best practical advice I can give you is to open a crypto job website and spend an hour looking at what different organizations look for. Even if you don’t intend to work for any of them this will give you all you need to know about education & experience requirements in the industry.

98% of devs do general defi / nft / evm development is fairly similar to traditional backend development that any dev can do. All you need is a basic understanding of simple cryptographic concepts and familiarization with the virtual machine you’re developing for (EVM / Solana…). A blockchain masters degree will give you a slight advantage over a traditional comp sci degree from the same university, but any team leader would rather pick a a compsci from a good university than a blockchain masters graduate from a no-name uni.

2% of devs do layer 1 / layer 2 / privacy / zero knowledge work that requires a significantly better understanding of cryptography. A cryptography masters will be a more useful for those than a general blockchain degree.

  2. I would suggest you to join the the community of QANplatform they are literally supporting devs with knowledge. This L1 allows the devs to code in any language too. Maybe this would be a good starting point with advanced blockchain tech.
