As the title suggests, my metamask was phished and drained earlier today, about 4/5 of my wallet. (Was lock-staked in some dapps, going to move them out asap). Is there any way to get it back theoretically or atleast a way to identify the individual who hacked me? Would a cold storage wallet prevent this from happening in the future?
1. did you enter your seeds phrase in any website or send it to someone?
2. a hardware wallet since it will require manual signing of transaction will prevent hacking,. BUT it will not prevent access if someone already has your seeds phrase.
Unless they had ur seed phrase they can’t hack u. Did you sign a contract somewhere that left u compromised, or enter ur seed phrase anywhere?
Yes cold wallet to confirm every transaction.
Never let your seed phrase touch the internet. Written down and then onto some cold steel for long-term safe-keeping, somewhere safe and hidden.
How do you think it happened? Bad smart contracts with coins you didn’t properly vet? Connected web3 wallet somewhere you shouldn’t have? Input your seed phrase somewhere and/or saved it to a computer touching the internet?
Those are the most common.
You need to seriously up your security…which means your behavior more than anything. Tech is only secondary.
Make sure to disconnect your metamask wallet from all the sites/contracts it’s been connected to over time. I remove all mine daily and things like open sea I actually use I just add it back, only takes a second.
Dodgy Dapp? I read about BNBMatrix and the like. You go to withdraw your deposited crypto and interest and the wallet request is to withdraw from the wallet not deposit. Bam! Empty wallet.
Use a ledger.
You got phished or entered your seed phrase or gave spending permission to a shady site
send txid
ALWAYS use a hardware wallet, that’s the lesson for anyone still not having one. We are degens, not using a cold wallet in crypto is like being a prostitute and not using protection.
Sorry that you got hacked, must feel like crap. You should file a police report and keep an eye for the funds being moved to a centralised exchange
This is pure sad news đŸ˜¢ no one wants to be hacked or something but what I can suggest moving forward to prevent this from happening again in the future is to choose a project that promotes safe & secured transactions , ebox as I am into it rn an onchain escrow has lots of security features

Here is the wallet it was drained to. Going through the transactions it looks like they’re in the process or finishing up on cashing out.
Was this by this account 0xb5fe752e7572ae5c38e150e5dfada7fa2681ea4d? Is there anything you can do about it anymore? I just noticed that it happened to me as well.
You was not hacked. They taught you a lesson.
That’s awful mate. I suggest you use ebox to prevent things like this to happen. It is an on-chain escrow and security tool. They have these reversible transaction feature which will surely solved your problems in DeFi network. They will soon have a Approval tracker also where you can remove permissions from suspicious transactions. You better do your DYOR on this one and have it on your side.
