How to choose an RPC?

[chainlist.org]( has lists of RPCs for various EVM networks like Ethereum, Polygon, Optimism. It shows the “official” Optimism RPC, for example, as having no privacy, where other “non-official” Optimism RPCs are rated higher. Going by the ratings, I’d have to NOT choose the official one, and go with one that I don’t recognize or know anything about who is hosting it. I don’t really know what to make of it.

Does it really matter which RPC you put into your meatmask? What’s the worst that could happen?

I wish it would let me include the screen shot I took FFS.

  1. The worst that could happen if you use a bad RPC is your transactions may not get through when the RPC is overloaded.

It also affects the latency you experience when connecting to dapps that rely on your RPC to pull on-chain data.
