Will we have an open interconnecting metaverse, or will he have plenty of closed metaverses?

The metaverse buzzword is booming in and out of the crypto space from leading crypto projects to Facebook rebranding to Meta or Microsoft bet on the space with Activision Blizzard acquisition.

My question is the following:

Will we have a big and diverse metaverse (ecosystem) with all sort of projects and chains in one unique HUGE space? An open metaverse.

Or will we have a bunch of closed metaverses (ecosystems)?

IMO, if the metaverse will end up being a bunch of closed ecosystems, it won’t be a metaverse at all, and not much will come out of it, unless it gets really huge!

What’s your thoughts?

  1. One metaverse for all means a TON of work, agreements contracts and standartisation. Things like this take 5-10 year

We cannot get an agrement on a freaking USB standard, we are far from a new reality layer

  2. For the time being Metaverse are pretty much closed BUT I can see, just as there is the possibility to wrap tokens, bridges (portals) between some metaverses.

This would be an innovation bringing me closer to accepting Metaverses as a big aspect of our future.

  3. All the big players wanting to play on the same field won’t happen, there will be a fracture just like everything else, eg like having 15 different streaming services.

  4. I believe at first there are gonna be multiple metaverses until one or couple take the monopoly, something like social medias today.

  5. I think that it should be one open metaverse, I like that idea very much but I am not sure if it’s possible. I know that there are some projects trying to emphasize this as a potential issue. It’s possible that we are going to see some bridges between metaverses just like we have bridges between various blockchains. Polkadot and its ecosystem can play an important role since they have a good approach when it comes to interoperability. Unique Network has talked a lot about metaverse and even proposed some ideas of how it can be done but I guess we will have to wait a bit more to see what’s going to happen. It’s an interesting subject to discuss, that is for sure.

  6. If you look at the model of the world, we have a bunch of closed societies operating in tandem. There are crossovers, like global travel and Internet communication, yet we all live in separate Nations.

I’m thinking there will be a smattering of Metaverses created in the beginning, but they’ll likely begin dying and consuming one another over time, and whatever remains will likely be bridged together in rough-shod fashion, creating an amalgam of a Metaverse.

  7. It’s gonna be a ton of closed ones because everyone’s gonna want their piece of the pie. Having one base layer that everything operates on is going to be super difficult and basically guarantee one crypto to kinda be the base layer.

Hell, if Spiderman and Dr. Strange have multiverses then crypto is gonna for awhile too.

  8. It’s gonna take some time to happen, but IDO launchpads like SolanaPrime have already gathered hundreds of startups in the market under their ecosystem and hopefully moving forward those ecosystems an co-exist

  9. obviously closed ones. but we will see partnerships among various ones though. Want to see how AIOZ metaverse shapes up. They will be including AI as well.

  10. Things will take time till we’ll be able to see a really encompassing metaverse similar to our physical reality… years if not decades. Till then I think we’ll see separate initiatives each with its ecosystem!

  11. I think eventually one verse will rise to the top and have buy in from many but expect many closed verses for an extended period of time and many that will aways be closed.

  12. I think it may be which ever one develops the best hardware and can build on that like we see with cellphone or self driving cars. It’s after that when the meta might be desirable to be there, there are a lot of factors that will determine the most popular.

  13. Ecosystem. There are quite a few projects developing metaverse NFTs that are portable. The Orbs by BT that just wrapped for example. I believe any ‘verse worth your time will have this functionality.

  14. I agree with you. If we have many closed ecosystems, then we will have nothing! IMHO, we can only have a truly open metaverse if we advance on serially dynamic NFTs. I’m specially bullish for the triad NFT Web3 and Metaverse itself, so I’m increasing my investments on Arweave (AR), Quartz (QTZ) and Decentraland (MANA). I’ve just got Quartz, since this project is building on Substrate that is a superior blockchain (Polkadot).

Solana, as the fastest blockchain available, is also supporting the NFT’s growth since OpenSea is already working on the Phantom Wallet’s integration. I know Ethereum is the main battlefield by now, but we need more options to solve the rigid economic model’s problem and support a true metaverse’s growth.
