The future of blockchain is interoperability for these facts:

1. The demand for smart contract chains/platforms is both infinite and permanent. Meaning, there’s an ever-increasing demand for smart chains until forever.
2. There’s no single chain that will ever be able to serve this demand. Thus users would have to use different of same protocols on different chains for the same needs.
3. Therefore, most, if not all serious protocols would make their dApps available on potentially every chain so users can choose which chain to use for their convenience.

Blockchains that can interoperate and talk to other chains seamlessly will potentially have an edge in the “smart chains war”.
Similarly, multi-chain dApps that offer their users multiple choices of chains will see the most revenue and profit.

Those are some of the projects you should keep an eye out for.
Nervos Network. CKB.
I have several things that attempts to solve interoperability, as I feel rather same as OP. While on market cap rankings most things are ahead, but I feel CKB might just do it the best, although PoW makes me wonder
Cosmos/Atom scratches this itch.
The staking unbending period can be a turn off.
OP knows this sub too much.
