What will you do if you receive millions of btc by mistake ?

Hebden Bridge man accidentally receives cheque for more than £2.3 trillion from Northern Powergrid in compensation for Storm Arwen

A spokeswoman for Northern Powergrid said: “We have corrected an administration error that affected a small number of cheques and we are continuing to process the remaining payments as fast as we can.”

What if they sent the payment in crypto ?

We know there is no one control the tokens else the wallet owner, so banks can’t control it or take it back from you

What will you do if one day you wake up and open your wallet and saw few hundreds of BTC or few thousands of ETH or whatever sent to your wallet address ?

We all know that we are poor and can’t have this amount in our wallets, not yet at least

  1. I was one of the Ethereum miners that received a portion of the fee from a user that made a huge mistake last year. Our mining pool requested that miners return as much of their allotted portion of the fee as possible. In the end, I returned my portion, minus gas fee. It was the right thing to do.

  2. I was overpaid by my company, early this month. Got a message from my boss, and I asked him to send me the wallet to send the extra token to, which he did, and I sent it back to the wallet.

  3. If it does happen, I guess I’d keep my mouth shut. NO way someone is going to make a mistake like that, see that the address is active, and not use legal/illegal options to track down the receiver.

  4. Millions don’t go as far as they used to, so take some out, invest others, make sure I could live off that money by making it grow

  5. If they sent to an exchange they could contact the exchange

If sent to the right person but wrong amount they could reach out and ask for a return with a % as an incentive, eg keep 10%

If sent to the wrong address, not on an exchange, they’d not know who to contact
