Throwaway for obvious reasons.
TL;DR how do I find the cryptocurrency stored in a wallet.dat file?
I used to mine a whole host of random cryptocurrencies when alts became popular years ago. Whenever I changed my desktop or laptop id throw the wallet.dat file onto a backup hard drive.
I now find myself in a position where I have around 15 seperate wallet files with absolutely no idea which currency they are for.
Is there any way to find this out? A while back I found a python tool which suposiy did the job. I used it on an offline machine and it didn’t seem to do anything (other than try to make a connection to the outside world).
I also threw each file into electrum which again didn’t give me what I needed.
Thanks
Open it with any HEX editor and search in text mode for the string ‘name’ to get the address.
