Is the crypto community just confirmation bias?

Curious to post this here.

I’ve put money into crypto so please don’t feel like I’m judging. I’ve even bought Doge and Ape so ya lol.

But I’m starting to notice the amount of backlash on critical views of crypto. Imo, criticism and critical analysis is necessary to to move this industry forward in a useful way.

Do you feel we’re rolling back into an echo chamber? Ex: ppl all screaming crypto will replace banking.

Also curious, do you engage with those who are critical of crypto without trying to just prove your purchase?

  1. It is just an echo chamber to make us feel better about our investment decisions. Most communities are echo chambers too.

  2. Yes most of us like to hear from people who agree with us.
But a key part of DYOR is to listen to the critics. I don’t mean the FUD which is just buzzwords but actual argument or criticisms for projects or crypto in general.

  3. You can’t say anything bad about something popular, nor can you add a solution without massive criticism. People will continue to buy their shitty old tech and meme coins regardless, this specific community is only obsessed with money, they don’t give a shit about anything else.

  4. Oh it’s definitely 100% a vacuum society. Pretty much impossible to not be one when you have a dedicated forum for any topic so I don’t think it’s a side effect of crypto but a side effect of specific topic communities where popularity dictates ranking and possible future views.

I’m all for blockchain technology but nobody seems to want to talk about the fact we could possibly be creating and promoting the system that later enslaves us into an economic state which is completely controlled and monitored by the government.

  5. Do you really think all the people who have worked for what they have will let banks go down? Hell no, there is more working people who have things and are gonna retire and who can manage money than the people who are dreaming of winning the lotto.

  6. Every news outlet, subbreddit, youtube community…basically anywhere that brings like minded people into a space to talk about things, is in essence a giant circle jerk.

I see often times very different opinions in this subreddit thankfully.

  7. Sadly humanity is just confirmation bias, not just the internet, reddit or crypto.

Most people avoid conflict, but sadly also constructive discussions – and this is an issue for our whole civilisation.

  8. Yes and yes, I usually keep subscribet to both r/cryptocurrency and r/buttcoin . After a couple of vomits thrown because of shilling and fudding I occassionaly stumble across a valid argument about some coin, it’s too much cringe but it’s worthy…

  9. A little bit, yes, but aren’t all things? I always engage with others who are critical or listen in on both views, it’s important to consider both sides of any argument to further understand your position and theirs.

Additionally, I feel like we have deviated from the original, and most crucial use case of Bitcoin, which is to disrupt the banking and finance industries. As you mentioned-the echo chamber of crypto will replace banking-should make a bigger comeback in my opinion. Many newcomers are distracted by flashy lights or bells and whistles.

  10. Yes, as all social media including reddit.

All we do with our money Is our responsability, althrough we can work to avoid that too much opium AND gloom win the conversations.

  11. Critical of crypto from no exposure or experience is one thing. Being critical of a shit marketing hyped coin is another thing, entirely.

  12. It mostly is, yes. Given the demographics of the bulk of crypto users it’s hard to argue with. Most of the crypto communities idea of DYOR is to ask people in Discord / Twitch Chat / Yelp / Etc.

  14. Well confirmation would be good, correct? If it was negative news only, then we would be no better than the MSM.
