How did everyone get into Crypto?

Kia Ora all, I’d love to hear how everyone got into crypto!

For myself I started getting interested in Crypto (Bitcoin) around the Silk Road days – through a documentary (I love those classic narco style docs) But I was about 15 at the time and didn’t really have any money or the know how to buy it especially in New Zealand at the time.

Fast forward 4 years i buy some Bitcoin the day I move to England just for some fun, completely forgot about it for 2 years. One day I was completely broke and remembered I had brought some Bitcoin a few years back, I ended up making about £120 on my investment (crazy to me at the time)

Fast forward I couple years and it’s covid, I’ve moved back in with my parents and I’m getting covid money from the government, I invest every single cent and I’ve been DCA fortnightly ever since!

Would like to hear your stories!

  1. I smoked a cigarette in front of my open window, a guy walking on the other site of the street saw me smoking and asked in english (I’m from germany) if I could help him find a dealer for weed since he was new in the city/germany. I had a good feeling about him so I helped him out. We became close friends, smoked a lot together but a few months later he broke up with his girl and moved back to sweden.

Like half a year later (December 2020) he told me on snapchat that “now is the perfect time to start investing in crypto”. BTC was like 20k/ ETH 600$ around that time. I’ve heard of bitcoin before but never showed any deeper interest in that, but since he always sticked to my mind as the ” money-making guy” I trusted him, and in the first few months my initial investment growed 5x.

That moment on crypto was one of my favorite topics/hobbies till this day.

  3. Bought a little back in 2015 just for fun, after reading articles about it. Occasionally tried to trade it, ignored it for long periods, but did not follow the market or really know what was going on in crypto. Then in summer 2021 I realized that despite my bad trades etc, my little holding had grown, and was no longer just beer money, which is when I started to take it seriously and invest systematically.

  4. Randomly. I am that kind of guy that accidentaly find something on the internet one day, usually random yt video or instagram meme and read so much to become expert in it. That’s how all my too many hobbies started. It is weird, but I just like learn new things.

  5. In 2012 I wanted to buy some stuff on the Silk Road so I needed bitcoin first.

The stuff I wanted was for a mate….

  7. Always wanted to try mining since the early 2010’s. Never took a good look into it because meh-its-kinda-complicated and I thought it was probably some kind of a bitTorrent scam.

Almost bought some bitcoins around 2012, because I thought maybe it’ll go up in value someday.

Fast forward to today I finally bought. Near ATH.

  8. I simply like tech, albeit not being very tech savvy myself. Been reading tech blogs and one of them mentioned Bitcoin and i didn’t understand what it was. Must have been around 2011 or the likes. Never invested anything tho up until last year when I bought my first share of BTC.

I found nano, played some quake and CS to earn some, tried to withdraw than i though that was easy and interesting. And here i am.

  11. I heard about the GME craze but didn’t bother too much cause I was not really comfortable with Stocks.
A few days later I saw Dogecoin trending on Twitter.
I looked into it and said fuck it let’s try how this will go and Set up an Account the same day.
19 months later I know, it was the best thing I could have done, as now I am debt free.
Not owning much Doge anymore but I am financially much better than 2 years ago even with Inflation rising.

  12. Honestly what actually got me in was all the doge hype at the start of last year. I was aware of crypto since the early days of Bitcoin, and even researched mining pools and wallets but I was dirt poor back then and my hardware was crap so gave it a miss. No use worrying about the what ifs though. I’m a lot more financially stable these days so can afford to put a little bit in each pay cycle.

  13. I was 14, My uncle bought some acid on silk road or something like that. He tossed me 10 bitcoin. like worth 2k at the time. Flash forward, I get out of prison from 2017-2020 and was shocked to find my bitcoin wallet in 2021. safe to say that was the day I was out of crypto for good. I missed out on like 170k but I am not mad at all. Crypto is far too speculative for me right now.

  17. Got a 3080 early on. A friend had been bugging me for months to try out mining, so I did and I fell into the rabbit hole. The first time I bought a 10 USD voucher for something with crypto was a real eye opener.

    tl;dr greed

  18. I got in to crypto technology a very long time ago. I was fascinated by its potential and got into learning all about the code. At the time my parents told me id be stupid to actually put any money in, I didn’t actually start investing in currency until December 2020.

Eth and doge where my first. Mainly because i had some dogecoin in my wallet when it used to get thrown around on the sub
