Can we stop using global crisis events to promote crypto?

So this sub has suddenly be flooded by posts claiming that all the financial issues going on in Ukraine at the moment would be solved if people had their money in crypto and not in fiat stored in banks.

As correct as people can be with that statement, please DO NOT use this crisis which can easily lead to WWIII to promote cryptocurrency. First of all, because Ukraine’s average population age is around 41yo, which is usually above the average of the normal crypto user (the avergae crypto user is between 18-40 yo – [data here](

With this said, nobody can also claim “why don’t they change their money to crypto now!” when Ukraine is currently receive a shit tonne of malware and computer virus attacks due to the invasion.

Please, do not use this crisis as the one in Lebanon back in the day to promote our world. Yes, our world has solutions that can help in this situation, but this does not mean this should be a reason for promotion.

For any Ukrainian out there reading this, we are here with you. Stay strong!!

  1. This sub could do away with all the overemotional and hyperbolic threads that serve as calls to action to solve nonexistent issues.

  2. Figuring out exchanges, self-custody, security, evading scammers and misinformation when first entering the space can take some time… Imagine trying to figure out all that while being in a war zone.

And even if you do in their situation… how the hell are they gonna cash out without internet or banking infrastructure?

  4. You must be new, people would promote their own grandmothers if it gave them one more token of their favorite shitcoin. The entire crypto machine is a giant promotion engine

  5. Besides moon farming, what are you trying to accomplish with this post? Us Reddit users don’t get to decide what Crypto is used for. It just happens to be a great alternative to fiat during account freezes and times of war.

  6. It’s the worst case of “Bitcoin can solve this!!” I’ve seen yet, and I hate it. I feel like most people on here don’t care about the situation in Ukraine, but want to make this a “good thing” by increasing adoption. It’s pretty disgusting.

  7. I hate it too. I’ve seen posts saying “look we donate crypto to Ukraine, use our services”.

This us a shame, people are dying and delusional or manipulative people are promoting shit.

I think considering how crypto can be utilized in situations of economic collapse or restrictive governments should be talked about objectively, but it’s really hard for many to do that when there is no empathy for the people actually going through a crisis.

Many posters just shout “hodl” or “crypto solves this” without really knowing what’s going on due to misinformation/media biases. So many “invest” in crypto as a hobby with spare fiat and have never experienced such dire situations that there’s a disconnect between posters. The moon echo chamber then compounds popular opinions voted to the top and almost de incentivizes a place where multiple differing opinions can be heard and respected.

  9. Crypto allows for instant transfer of money to anywhere in the world, without needing authorization from no one. It’s a perfect use case using it to support the oppressed.

  10. People always automatically plan on how to make profit out of a crisis. Your neighbor the crypto bro the same as big companies.

To play the devil’s advocate: it’s good to let people in war-torn countries know that there are ways to store their wealth and transfer it across borders safely in the event that they become refugees. If they travel with too much gold or cash or a Rolex they’re gonna be targets for malicious actors.

  12. I don’t like that kind of promotion either but the system is how it works. It’s all manipulation to get something in return. Sad but true. I hope the war ends soon.

  13. That is a very cynical view of some great news involving BTC donation to the Ukraine. I don’t see why people wouldn’t discuss it on a crypto Reddit.

  14. It’s a crypto subreddit man that’s the whole point is to discuss crypto. If you want soft supportive posts for Ukraine go to r/world news or r/Ukraine or even r/Russia

  16. You’re such a hero !! This is a crypto subreddit. People can talk about crypto all they want. Promoting crypto does not mean being against Ukraine. Calm down you’re not helping anyone, including Ukraine.

  17. I don’t know what post you are reading but I haven’t read those. Mostly I’m seeing people wanting to donate their profits to Ukraine, people asking if it’s ethical to profit with what’s going on in Ukraine and people asking about how there was a crash and pump.

  18. No because PoW coins like BTC and LTC are a big part of the answer to the centralized power that creates the global crises at their gain and the loss of the everyman.

  19. I don’t think you know why people are using cryptocurrency if you’re trying to get people to *not* promote the use of them during times of crisis… this is a crypto sub after all…

  20. Everything discussed on a CRYPTOCURRENCY SUB will pertain to CRYPTOCURRENCY. There are outlets to talk about the Ukraine crisis in a much more helpful, humanitarian way. This is not the place for that. Don’t get mad at people for relating every event to crypto on a crypto sub. Go literally anywhere else.

  21. First, people are not correct with that statement. Crypto works as long as you have electricity and internet connectivity. Good luck finding those when major pieces of infrastructure are being bombed into rubble. One of the first things an invading force is going to try and take control of is communications, and if they can’t then they’re going to ensure that you can’t either.

Second, there are a fair number of sociopaths on here and in other trading forums. Their first concern isn’t other people. Their first concern is how this affects their portfolio. When the invasion first happened there were a number of posts along the lines of “Oh no! Anyway, how will this affect my profits?”

Also, there’s no way the proponents of crypto are going to let a premium crisis/opportunity of this nature go to waste.
